Amethyst

Amethysts stimulate and support the 7th Chakra or Crown Chakra, spiritual awareness, meditation, and serenity. It is the birthstone for the month of February. Its name comes from the Ancient Greek a- (“not”) and methustos (“intoxicated”) rooted in the belief that the stone protected its owner from drunkenness and poison. Amethyst is a variety of quartz and has a hardness of 7. This gemstone is believed to promote sincerity, bring peace of mind to its wearer, help to overcome addictions, facilitate spiritual awareness and meditation. Some of its physical healing properties include balancing one’s metabolism, it stimulates tissue regeneration and increases the production of red corpuscles and it may be used to treat disorders of blood sugar levels and lapses in the immune system. Amethyst calms the mind, enhances mental activity and lends strength and will power to control passions. It is available in different shades of purple, from pale translucent lavender to rich deep purple-red. Amethyst is found in Australia, Brazil, Germany, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Uruguay, the United States and Canada.
